Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics is indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, marking the start of a new era

I am pleased to announce that Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics (RDE) has been selected for indexing in the Web of Science - Emerging Sources Citation Index as of July 2023, and in Scopus as of December. This milestone reflects the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of previous editors and editorial board members. It signifies that RDE has successfully expanded its international reach and connections.

This journal was established in 1975 as the Journal of Korean Academy of Operative Dentistry and underwent a name change in 1988 to become the Journal of Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry. In 2012, it was renamed to Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, at which time the official language of publication was also changed to English. The journal is now issued on a quarterly basis. As one of the early pioneers of dental journals, RDE has been freely accessible online since 2002. It was indexed in PubMed and PubMed Central in 2013, included in the Directory of Open Access Journals in 2017, and added to the EBSCO database in 2022. Over the past nearly 5 decades, RDE has provided an academic platform for the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of restorative dentistry and endodontics to clinical dentists, dental researchers, and students.

The following process outlines our journey to achieve this status and may serve as a guide for other journals. RDE has expanded its editorial board by inviting editors from various continents, including North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. These international members are active experts in their respective fields and contribute to the journal by reviewing and editing submissions. In addition to processing selected papers, the editors have been diligently working to align the journal with international standards. This has involved multiple revisions of the author guidelines to improve clarity, the creation of a statement on Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, and an update of the publication ethics section to align with recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics. Additionally, we have engaged the services of a statistical editor. Starting in 2020, the journal implemented Editorial Manager (https://www2.cloud.editorialmanager.com/rde/), a new English-based online submission system that streamlines management for both domestic and international authors and reviewers. The list of databases indexing RDE can now be found on our homepage (https://rde.ac/).

The success of our efforts will largely depend on how many high-quality papers are submitted in the future. Therefore, I extend an invitation to authors to submit their diverse research studies. It is evident that the current accomplishments of RDE could not have been achieved without the steadfast support and collaboration of our members and readers worldwide. I am deeply grateful for the contributions of each individual involved. Moreover, to elevate this journal to the status of a premier international academic publication, sustained interest from scholars in the relevant fields, both domestically and internationally, is crucial. The journal is committed to advancing oral health through the lenses of restorative dentistry and endodontics. We will maintain this commitment by adhering to international publishing standards and by rigorously editing and publishing manuscripts.

In 2023, RDE published a total of 40 papers, encompassing review articles, research articles, and case reports. These publications were rigorously reviewed by 144 dedicated reviewers who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. Owing to their diligent and constructive efforts, RDE has successfully published high-quality papers in a timely manner. Notably, Dr. Paulo Jorge Palma and Dr. Marco Simões de Carvalho were honored with a Certificate of Appreciation for their exceptional contributions to the review process. We extend our sincere thanks to all the reviewers for their hard work and kindly request their continued support in the coming year.

Once again, I extend my congratulations to our members for the significant achievement of RDE being indexed in the globally recognized database platforms, Web of Science and Scopus. I am hopeful that through our persistent efforts, RDE will continue to thrive and evolve in the year 2024.
